On the occasion of the commencement of the 4th graduation convocation, the Chairman of the USS Board of Executive Directors, Eng. Abdifatah Samale, gave a brief history of the institution, its current restructuring program, and the way forward in its endeavor to seek a prominent status in the world academic rankings. He also urged the graduates to exploit the knowledge and skills they acquired during their long years of training.

Turning to the faculty, the Chairman advised them to focus on research, noting how “the lack of research capability severely handicaps the development of our society.” He added, “With the recent appointment of senior scholars like Prof. Mohamed Eno, Prof. Ali M. Kusow and others expected to join us soon, there is no reason why the University of Southern Somalia couldn’t be the national leader in research and production of new knowledge.”

The Chairman highlighted the need to train a new generation of researchers with appropriate skills to address the problems facing the Somali society, particularly in the areas of education and other crucial sectors for social development.

During the same occasion, Chairman Abdifatah Samale commended the USS for the remarkable place it occupies in the society and the expansion currently underway. He said that the aim is to ameliorate the operation of the university and uplift its national and international reputation and accreditation. The chairman urged the faculty and staff of the university to continue modifying the curriculum, relevant to the growing socio-economic system of the Southwest State of Somalia and the entire nation.

In his concluding remarks, the USS Board Chair appealed to the authorities of the Southwest State of Somalia (SWSS) to maximize their effort towards the enhancement of the quality of education.
