On the 15th of February 2020, the University of Southern Somalia held the most colorful graduation ceremony ever in the South West State of Somalia and in the entire Federal Republic of Somalia. During the occasion, over a 100 students (about 31 of them females), graduated—the highest number to graduate in a single congregation.

The ceremony, which started with His Excellency President Abdiaziz “Laftagareen’s” opening speech, was followed by a thrilling academic procession of the faculty and graduands, which attracted the guests’ ululation, enthusiasm and applause.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed A. Eno was the mace bearer leading the procession and the institution’s commencement. The event also marked the first time in the history of Somalia when a mace-bearing academic led a procession of the faculty and graduates at a congregation.
